What would have happened if in 1866, the Prince of Flanders would have accepted to become ruler of the Romanian United Princely States? A rhetorical question, but anyway Romanian – Belgian philatelic relations date from about that period, when the great philatelist J. Moens begins the first studies over classics from the entire world, and the magazine “Balasse Magazine” hosted in its pages, until it closed its activity in the ‘70ties many important articles about Romanian philately, magazine considered of great prestige in the philatelic world. Starting from the second half of the 19th century, Belgian philatelic clubs had many members among Romanian philatelists, with which they had an intense correspondence.
As a good continuation of Romanian – Belgian relations, at the National Philatelic Museum was opened a philatelic exposition dedicated to the celebration of 125 years from the establishment of Romanian – Belgian diplomatic relations and the 175th anniversary of the Kingdom of Belgium, with the participation and support of the Belgian Embassy in Bucharest, The Romanian Post SA, the Stamp Works and not in the least the Romanian Philatelic Federation. With this occasion a set of five philatelic covers was issued. The exposition met with great success and is opened during the period between the 10th and 30th of November 2005 in the exposition hall of the National Philatelic Museum. We invite you to visit it!
