Stamp Hunting: A Modern Review

Lewis Robie was a traveling salesman for the J. Elwood Lee Co. in the late 1890s. He wrote about his buying proprietary stamps still attached to old medicines and how he sold these stamps to collectors in Stamp Hunting, published in 1898. A Tribute to Stanley M. Bierman

When Stanley M. Bierman, M.D., died on January 21 at the age of 86, the world of philately lost a philatelic scholar, masterful raconteur, and an important part of its institutional memory. Stanley Bierman worked diligently at assembling one of the world’s greatest private philatelic libraries, putting it to good use as a tool for research on philately’s greatest stamp collectors. Women Cryptologists Crack the Code on New Forever Stamps

With this stamp, the U.S. Postal Service honors the women cryptologists of World War II, whose work played a significant role in the Allied victory. The first-day-of-issue event for the stamps is free and open to the public. News of the stamps is being shared with the hashtag #WomenCryptologistStamp. My Stamp Story – The Steele Box Collection

Mark Forder’s stamp collecting journey started at the exact same time he acquired the Steele box over 25 years ago. His grandfather had a collection stamps that Mark would look at every so often when he was young. Getting into the stamp and ephemera collecting journey occurred when the Steele box first appeared. Stamp of the Week!

The stamp of this week is Nova Scotia Scott 10. This stamp is part of the Queen Victoria seroes, which was issued from 1860 until 1863. The design features a profile of the queen and the denomination of the stamp, as well as Nova Scotia. Two variants of this particular stamp exist, one using white paper (Scott 10) and one using yellowish paper (Scott 10a). This is one of three stamps with this particular design, with the other two being a one cent stamp and a two cent stamp. The genuine stampd are finely engraved lines deep sharp and distinct. The neck point also rests on the third horizontal line of background.
