As British Guiana it issued what’s known as the world’s rarest stamp, the 1-Cent Magenta, in 1856; even before that, the “Cottonreels” of 1850-51 attracted great interest among collectors and are now regarded as “classics” of the British empire. Stamp of the Week!

The stamp of this week is.Liberia Scott 27. It is part of the 1886 issue, which are some of the first stamps to be issued by the country. A total of 10 stamps were issued in the set (including variants of the stamps with the same denomination). Values of the stamps ranged from 1 to 16 Liberian cents. The design of the stamp is very simple, with the value of the stamp surrounded by a hexagon ( with a more complex deign with the stamps valued above 8 cents). All stamps in the set are lithographed. Unlike the genuine stamp, the forgery has a notch at the bottom where the bar attaches to the four. Visit the Forged or Genuine page to see if you can tell the difference, and visit the StampStore to add the stamp to your collection.
